easy English Crumpet |
English Crumpet Recipe:
- 1.5 cups of warm Milk
- 2 tsp of active dry Yeast
- 1 tsp granulated Sugar
- 2.5 cups of all Purpose Flour
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1/4 tsp Baking Soda
First, combine milk, yeast and sugar in one bowl and let them rest for 5 minutes until the yeast looks foamy or bubbly. Then add flour. Beat with low speed mixer. I used Kitchen Aid Mixer with paddle attachment. If you don't have big mixer with big speed, you can use spoon to incorporate the mixture and knit the dough with your hand. The dough mixture is a bit sticky, so you have to use plastic glove. After the dough is incorporated, let them rest for about 1 hour. (Cover the dough with damp kitchen towel).
After one hour, stir warm water, salt and Baking Soda and put the solution into the dough. And again, mix the mixture with low speed mixer until smooth and well blended. Let them rest again for about 1 hour. (Cover the dough with damp kitchen towel).
Heat pan with low medium temperature and put 1 spoon of butter. Scoop the dough into the pan. The dough will be a bit sticky. If you want a good shape (round Crumpet), you can use ring mold to shape it. Don't forget to brush the ring mold with butter.
English Crumpet is delicious and a perfect "companion" to morning milk or afternoon tea.
